Background & Inspiration

Hi, and welcome to my blog! I'm Olena Khetan and I'm currently a junior at The Overlake School. I've recently started working on a project that is personal to me and I'm excited to start blogging about my learnings and experience.

The idea came to me a few months back while I was travelling with my volleyball team. While sharing the room with my teammates I learned that a lot of girls struggle with eczema. It was eye opening to hear stories from everyone on their struggles with managing eczema during travel as every place has a different impact. I started to conduct research on the effects of eczema based on locations and weather at different times of the year as this was the only way I could be prepared for future travel.

This past semester at school, I enrolled in an app development course. I've always loved coding since I was first introduced to it in middle school by code.org and this course seemed very exciting. As the class progressed, I felt more and more excited to develop something meaningful to me.  After having to deal with eczema all my life and how it was unpredictable especially during travel, I wanted to explore possibilities of creating something where it would not only help me be prepared but also help others in my same situation.

Recently there has been a huge shift towards everyone using LLMs like ChatGPT and I have started exploring if ML models can help me with my vision for my app. School has been busy with AP exams and I can't wait to continue discussing the process once I find more time. Stay tuned as I'm very excited to see where this goes!
